After-hours school break-in highlights key-control follow-up

· Source 2026-10-11 · Checked 2026-10-12

A Michigan sheriff’s report says keys were taken during an October 11 school break-in. Recovery planning should include the access those keys could provide.

Status: Arrest reported; investigation ongoing

What happened

Van Buren County deputies arrested a person after an overnight entry at Lawrence High School. The sheriff reported stolen cash and keys; the investigation remains open.

Why it matters

SSEI perspective: repairing entry damage does not resolve the potential exposure from missing keys.

Consider for your setting

Identify affected doors and key holders, evaluate rekeying or credential changes, document temporary safeguards and assign responsibility for follow-up. Include after-hours reporting and access-control checks in recovery plans.

What remains uncertain

This is an initial law-enforcement account, not a conviction or independent security evaluation. It does not establish what the keys opened, whether they were recovered or which controls were present. The recovery recommendations are SSEI’s application.
